Sometimes, one crane just isn’t enough. When you’re moving 60-tonne generator sets into tight spaces, you need the right kit and a team that knows how to use it properly.

On our FR8.3 project in Germany, we used two cranes to get the job done. An LTM1750-9.1 and an LTM1650-8.1 worked together to lift and place the units safely and accurately.

Tandem lifting isn’t just about having bigger cranes. It’s about control. Both machines need to share the load evenly and move at the same time, at the same speed. If one moves too quickly or takes too much weight, it can cause problems, so everything has to be planned and managed carefully.

That planning starts well before the cranes arrive on site. We look at ground conditions, access, lift distances and how much room there is to work with. Every stage of the lift is thought through, from the first pick to the final position.

Clear communication on site is just as important. The operators and lift team need to stay in constant contact so everyone knows exactly what’s happening and when. There’s no guesswork involved.

This kind of lift shows what can be done with the right preparation and experienced people on the job. It’s not complicated for the sake of it; just careful work, done properly.

The end result was a smooth, safe lift and another job completed as planned.
