On behalf of Reading Festival, King Lifting’s client, Serious Stages, required the installation of a temporary pedestrian bridge spanning the River Thames at the heart of the iconic festival. King Lifting were employed to undertake these works as a contract lift. This lift was required to be completed overnight as possession of the River Thames was required for Bridge Install. King Lifting utilised a Terex AC350/6 with 116t counterweight, full outrigger setup whilst positioning the crane on a custom-built crane pad. The task was to lift the pre-assembled bridge from the south bank (ground level) across the River Thames and locate on pre-assembled supports, in time for festival goers to cross the River Thames from the white camping locations to the main stage areas.

Project outcomes

Successful lift within tight timescales, completed at night, near a deep watercourse, and with all associated pressures of ensuring a world-renowned festival opens with an integral operational pedestrian bridge safely installed. Lifting operations were completed on time, and on budget.
