Building Bridges for Briton Fabricators

DETAILS
As a contractor for Briton Fabricators Ltd, which was commissioned by the Midland Metro Alliance (MMA) for the first phase of the Wednesbury to Brierley Hill Metro extension, King Lifting replaced the “Hanson’s Ale” bridge with two new U decks. These new decks were fabricated by Briton Fabricators and painted in the iconic colours and design of the original Hanson’s Ale bridge.
To install the two 110-tonne decks at a maximum radius of 17 meters, we utilised our 800-tonne Liebherr LTM1750-9.1 crane, equipped with a 204-tonne counterweight and guyed main boom. The crane arrived on-site at 4 am on Saturday, 15 June, and both decks were successfully installed by 2 pm the same day.
In October of last year, King Lifting supplied its 650-tonne LTM1650-8.1 crane to remove the existing bridge, working directly with the MMA.
Dean Morcom, Managing Director, Briton Fabricators Limited “Thanks to King Lifting for their professional approach in managing the abnormal load application process, their timely attendance, and their collaborative work ethic on-site during the high-pressure environment working during the possession.”
Steve Wathen, Heavy Crane Director, King Lifting “It was great to engage with the Briton Fabricators team on this project working through the challenges of getting both the crane and its support vehicles to the site to assist with the restoration of this iconic bridge as part of the wider work on the Metro extension project for MMA.”
